FURNAS CIRCUIT “HOT SPRINGS, FUMAROLES AND BOILERS”

DESCRIPTION:

After pick-up at your hotel or accommodation (free service between the cities of Ponta Delgada, Lagoa and Ribeira Grande), from 9:00 until 9:20, or in the afternoon between 14:00 and 14:20, we start the half-day Furnas / Leste Tour “Termas, Caldeiras & Fumarolas” circuit towards one of the most emblematic volcanic areas of São Miguel, considered the capital of Azorean tourism.

Crossing from the south coast to the north of the island, to the tea plantations and their factories, for a visit and tea tasting at the Gorreana tea factory or Porto Formoso tea factory.

Back on the road, time to drive into the interior of the volcanic crater of Furnas, where in one part is the bucolic Lagoa das Furnas, (entrance not included, available by choice or at customer’s expense) area where we cook the famous ” Stew from Furnas “.

Cooked in volcanic soil for 6 hours, here we can also observe the removal of the pots from inside the volcanic soil by local restaurants, we will also visit the various fumaroles and boilers there.

Once again on the road towards the parish of Furnas you can optionally relax in the incredible pools of Terra Nostra Botanical Garden, considered one of the largest and best in Europe, which is now over 200 years old, originally built in 1775 by Thomas Hickling, a merchant. from Boston, and was also Honorary Consul of the United States in San Miguel. (entrance not included, available by choice or at customer’s expense).

After a relaxing thermal bath, it is time to leave for the center of Furnas Parish, deep inside the volcanic crater, to know all the eruptive history and to visit its several fumaroles, boilers and taste some mineral springs there.

The visit in the center of the parish of Furnas will be complemented with a taste of tasty liqueurs.

After a half day visit to Furnas, full of history and magnificent scenery, it is time to return to your accommodation.
